Rubbish Tip World

Although rubbish removal Northern Beaches Sydney has done a great job at removing the pain points within the Rubbish removal industry. I listened to a man who had recently visited Mongolia and was showing some of the scenes that challenged him. There were many, and some challenged me. One in particular was the open-tip waste disposal areas outside every town, and the large numbers of poor people who lived in makeshift dwellings put together from refuse. Their occupation was then to scavenge on their dump for everything, including food. You know, there is a disturbing truth here, that while we are not all scavengers, we live in a dirty, corrupted rubbish-tip world. I had better explain myself.

  • GLOBAL

The movement to reduce global warming and global pollution has become an urgent mission to save and preserve human life and civilisation, as we know it. Rising temperatures year on year are causing changes such as melting polar ice-caps and rising sea levels, are mainly due to the immense quantities of fossil fuels being burnt in the developed world. Global pollution is then a by-product of this warming process.

So, in addition to air pollution from the burning of fossil fuels, now colossal quantities of plastic and non-bio-degradable waste are also polluting our oceans. Even small industrialised nations are now finding the disposal of domestic and industrial waste a huge challenge. Will it be buried in land-fill sites with all the toxic leaching effects into the ground, sent overseas to larger processes, or collected as ash after large-scale incineration?

  • ACTIVISM

Facing these challenges has driven many people to devote themselves to activism and lifestyle changes aimed to combat the threat of human extinction. Today, many people care passionately about the values of translating social concern into action that will produce real and positive change for the better.

So, what am I getting at with ‘Rubbish tip world’ – am I merely being alarmist or discouraging the sincere effort to overcome the deadly challenges of a polluted planet? No, not at all, I admire the devotion and concern that drives people to rescue our endangered lives. But I also see wider moral dimensions at work that go right back to the Genesis account of how God gave Adam a mandate to oversee the earth and take care of it. But much of the modern climate action movement is driven by deep concern, some of which is mixed with hopes for a replenished, fertile planet and a restored pagan worship of Mother Earth.

  • DISASTER

Now, not only with increasing material prosperity has our environment become prone to natural disasters and extreme weather events, but the secular storm surges have also unleashed social and moral values set to expunge from Western culture, heterosexual marriage, care of the unborn and male and female genders rooted in a biological reality – values and beliefs that have upheld Judeo-Christian values for centuries.

What’s going on? A radical movement is determined to obliterate all Biblical teaching about the transcendent glory and moral holiness of God, the historic Genesis fall of humanity into moral revolt against God and the spread of that sinful rebellion to the entire subsequent human family.

But instead of evolutionary science telling people that their feelings of anger, shame and inner conflict and hopelessness are only natural, this is where we need the heart-searching analysis of God’s unchanging word, for instance; ‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick’ (Jeremiah 17:9). The ‘heart’ is the moral and rational centre of our person, so those words are speaking of our natural, moral corruption – not a pretty picture.

  • MORAL RUBBISH

Think of the rubbish tip, but now it is all spewing out of the heart just as Jesus taught, ‘from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these things come from within, and they defile a person’ (Mark 7:21-23). No wonder then that after his moral failure, even King David cried, ‘O God…Against you, you only, have I sinned’ (Psalm 51:1 &4).

After surveying the moral landscape of the human heart, the Apostle Paul summed it all up, ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’ (Romans 3:23). The human heart is the centre of such awful God-dishonouring corruption and defiance, which despite the concerted efforts of secular whitewash to normalise sin, nothing will ever change the deep reality of true moral sin and guilt before God. Nothing, that is, except the God-given way of forgiveness of sin and reconciliation with God through repentance and trust in the shed blood of the sinless God-Man Jesus Christ upon the cross, when he died to bear the judgement due to disobedience of God.

  • CLEANSING

What love, what astonishing mercy that he who was above all things, the glory of the eternal ages, through whom all things were made, would stoop to come down into this rubbish-tip of our sin-ruined humanity and willingly give himself to die on the cross bearing the sin and guilt of all those who will turn and trust him to receive cleansing, peace with God and life everlasting! And even come to live in our hearts by his Holy Spirit – how wonderful! Time to give up the revolting rubbish and turn to Christ – do it today.
